A Comparison of Spectrophotometric and Oxidoreduction Potential Method for Laccase Activity Measurement: Crimson Publishers

A Comparison of Spectrophotometric and Oxidoreduction Potential Method for Laccase Activity Measurement by Rana Mustafa in  Research in   Medical & Engineering Sciences Polyphenol oxidases (PPOs) oxidize phenolic compounds forming quinones, which undergo non-enzymatic reactions resulting in colored compounds. We studied ferulic acid and catechol oxidation by Myceliophthora thermophila laccases using oxidoreduction potential (ORP or Eh) as a novel method to determine PPO activity compared to the traditional spectrophotometric method. Eh varied time-dependently on ferulic acid and catechol concentrations. Eh increased to a maximum value (Ehmax), then decreased irreversibly proportional with substrate concentration. The ΔEh curves of ferulic acid and catechol oxidation at different concentrations by laccase exhibited two steps substrate oxidation: enzymatic and non-enzymatic; linear segments with increasing and decreasing slopes (rate of ΔEh change). The Km valu...

Polymicrobial Injection-Site Abscesses Associated with Contaminated Methylprednisolone Injections in Florida: Crimson Publishers

Polymicrobial Injection-Site Abscesses Associated with Contaminated Methylprednisolone Injections in Florida by James Matthias in Research in Medical & Engineering Sciences Intramuscular injections have been identified as the cause of many infectious disease outbreaks in the United States. Identified sources include intrinsically contaminated product or a breakdown in infection control practices leading to extrinsic contamination of the product [1-5] In September 2012, a national outbreak investigation involving the New England Compounding Center (NECC), identified at least 61 deaths and 749 adverse events from intrinsically contaminated preservative-free Methylprednisolone acetate (pf-MPA) primarily injected through epidural or intraspinal sites. https://crimsonpublishers.com/rmes/fulltext/RMES.000529.php For more open access journals in  crimson publishers   Please click on   link:   https://crimsonpublishers.com For more articles on  Re...
